Zare Mandani, a 54-year-old barber in Los Angeles, received a five-year restraining order against Afshar in 2024 after experiencing a series of harassment incidents at work and at home, the California Post reported.

Afshar arrived in the United States on a tourist visa in 2015, was granted asylum in 2019, and received green card status in 2021.
According to the New York Post, her daughter came to the United States on a student visa in 2021 and received a green card in 2023. The mother and daughter have returned to Iran several times, causing concern among U.S. authorities.
Mandani said he met Afshar at a party and realized she was wearing a wig.
In legal filings regarding the domestic violence restraining order, he classified their relationship as “we are dating or habitually dating,” but told The Washington Post they were just friends.
The documents detail allegations of emotional abuse, harassment, persistent unnecessary phone calls, restrictions on movement, preventing him from working in the workplace, and claims she “threatened” to harm herself.
It is worth noting that Afshar has publicly celebrated attacks on American soldiers and military installations, and even called the United States the “Great Satan.” She also expressed support for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which the United States calls a terrorist organization.
