Coyote Flats Fire: People in Rapid City share horrific visuals; evacuations ordered in Neck Yoke and Coyote Flats areas
A massive fire breaks out in Rapid City, known as the Coyote Flats Fire south dakota Evacuations were ordered in the affected areas on Wednesday. As of this writing, the fire has spread to 30 acres, according to Watch Duty.
Evacuations were also ordered in the Neck Yoke and Coyote Flats areas. “A wildfire warning is issued for the Neck Yoke and Coyote Flats areas. GO NOW! People in the area should leave and stay away fire and smoking. Pennington County Emergency Management said people who don’t leave now could be trapped, injured or killed. according to Watch Duty.
The fire broke out in the 23800 Block of Pebble Ln in Rapid City. One reporter said it had a direct impact on Coyote Flats Rd.

The Rapid City Fire Department also released a statement saying, “Anyone in the GO NOW area must leave immediately. Do not delay. Stay away from smoke and fire, and follow the instructions of first responders. The fire is very intense and all available resources are currently engaged. Firefighters and emergency vehicles are working throughout the area… Please use caution if you are evacuating.”
“Avoid this area. This allows crews to operate safely and efficiently. Media staging location: Rockville Station 1. We will provide updates as more information becomes available,” they added, sharing a photo of the fire in the distance.

Coyote Flats Fire: Visual Effects Appear
“Outside of Rapid City, South Dakota. The fire is estimated to be 50 acres and is active, with local residents nearby asking to evacuate the fire area. The temperature in Rapid City is currently 72 degrees and the relative humidity is 26%. The Qury Fire has the potential to burn some resources,” one person wrote.
Another added: “New fire southwest of Rapid City, SD near Rockville #CoyoteFlatsFire – periodic black smoke from vegetable smoke from tower cameras.”
“It looks like there is a new wildfire burning near Neck Yoke Road east of Rockville. There are currently structures threatened and evacuations are in progress,” a local reporter shared Facebook.
Maps of the affected areas were also shared online.
“Latest update on Coyote Apartments fire!” a reporter wrote when sharing the evacuation order.
A further update from the Pennington County Public Safety Center reads: “Livestock can take shelter at the Central State Fairgrounds. Neck Yoke Rd. Spring Creek Rd. and South Rockerville Rd. are closed. Local residents with livestock concerns can contact law enforcement at both road closure locations. If safe, law enforcement escorts will be provided to retrieve livestock from specific known locations.”
