‘Conveyed India’s concerns over recent developments’: PM Modi speaks to Israel’s Netanyahu

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday he “conveyed India’s concerns over recent developments” in a phone call with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin NetanyahuAfter the killing of Iran’s supreme leader, the situation in the Middle East faced a sharp escalation.In X’s post, Prime Minister Modi He wrote: “Have a phone call with Prime Minister Netanyahu to discuss the current regional situation. Conveyed India’s concerns about recent developments and emphasized that the safety of civilians is the top priority. India reiterated the need to cease hostilities as soon as possible.” His remarks came as Ali Khamenei was killed in a US-Israeli-coordinated air strike on Tehran. The scope of regional strikes continued to expand and the number of casualties continued to rise.The Prime Minister also spoke to United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, strongly condemning the attacks against the Gulf country and expressing solidarity. Modi wrote: “Spoke to the President of the UAE, my brother Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Strongly condemned the attacks on the UAE and condoled the loss of life in these attacks. India stands with the UAE in these difficult times.” He added: “Thanks to him for taking care of the Indian community living in the UAE. We support de-escalation, regional peace, security and stability.”Iran has carried out attacks across the UAE over the past two days, killing three people and wounding 58 others, including an Indian national. The Indian Embassy said it was aware of the injuries and was in contact with hospital authorities. The UAE Ministry of Defense reported that 165 ballistic missiles were intercepted, 152 of which were destroyed and 13 fell into the sea, as well as two cruise missiles and 541 drones, most of which were shot down.The crisis intensified after U.S. and Israeli forces attacked targets in Iran, including Revolutionary Guard facilities and missile sites. Tehran retaliated with missile and drone attacks on Israeli and U.S. military installations in the Gulf. The violence has spread beyond the immediate conflict zone, raising global concerns about disruptions to oil supplies, routes and air travel.
