Diagne is from Senegal. Diagne came to the United States in 2006 and became a naturalized U.S. citizen, one of the people told The Associated Press. The suspect, who was shot at the scene, used a handgun and a rifle in the attack, police said. The FBI said the shooting is being investigated as a potential act of terrorism. Police found a Koran in his car, the New York Post reported.

Is Ndiaga Diagne a Trump supporter?

Social media commentators dug up Diagne’s social media profiles. While we can’t confirm if the profile is indeed that of the shooter, some users claim he follows Trump and even Elon Musk. Replying to a post about the president, the user can be seen describing the 79-year-old president as a “shameless clown.” Again, we don’t know if this is the shooter’s profile.

The shooting occurred around 2 a.m. local time outside the Buford Backyard Beer Garden on Sixth Street in Austin, a busy nightlife center near the University of Texas. According to Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis, officers responded within a minute of the first emergency call and confronted the suspect at a nearby intersection, ultimately fatally shooting him. City officials praised the quick response for preventing further casualties. “They literally saved lives,” Austin Mayor Kirk Watson said.

Investigators said the suspect had circled the area multiple times before launching the attack. He first opened fire from inside the SUV, shooting through the windows at people gathered on patios and outside the bar. He then got out of the car with a rifle and continued shooting at nearby pedestrians before police intervened.

The FBI is currently investigating whether the attack was motivated by extremism. “It’s too early to make a decision,” said Alex Dolan, acting special agent in charge of the FBI’s San Antonio field office, noting that “signs” were found on the shooter’s body and in his car.

University of Texas President Jim Davis confirmed that some of those affected were connected to the campus community. “Our prayers go out to the victims and everyone affected,” he said.

In a separate incident earlier Sunday, nine people were injured in a shooting at a Cincinnati nightclub and concert venue. Local authorities said all of the victims suffered gunshot wounds, but none suffered life-threatening injuries, Interim Police Chief Adam Hennie said.
