The issue remains unresolved because of questions in the ATF report that defense attorneys presented in court Monday. After the report is released, FBI Indicates that additional tests are being run to determine if the mismatch indeed exists.

Meanwhile, Robinson’s attorneys said they plan to use the testimony of the ATF personnel who conducted the testing in court proceedings. They also asked the Provo judge to Utah Based on the news’ findings, the county postponed the trial, which was scheduled to begin in May.

Did Tyler Robinson admit to killing Charlie Kirk?

Prosecutors allege that Robinson has not yet confessed in court, but allegedly admitted via Discord, text messages and notes. Hours after the shooting (September 10), Robinson messaged a Discord group saying, “Hey guys, I have bad news for you. It was me at UVU yesterday. I’m sorry about it all (sic).” Discord confirmed the account to the FBI.

Robinson also texted his roommate, Lance Twiggsallegedly admitted to the murder. “I’ve had enough of his hatred. Some hatred can’t be negotiated away. I have the chance to get rid of Charlie Kirk and I’ll take it,” he wrote, adding that he asked Twiggs to delete the messages.

What you need to know about Taylor Robinson’s rifles

The Mauser 98 bolt-action rifle allegedly used by Robinson was found in woods near the Utah Valley University campus. Robinson’s father confirmed that he gave the rifle to Robinson as a family heirloom. According to reports, this is a 0.30-06 caliber artillery piece from World War II. The FBI also found Robinson’s DNA on a trigger in the house.

Robinson texted Twiggs that he had the rifle “wrapped in a towel” and hoped to retrieve it later.

Has Taylor Robinson turned himself in?

Yes, Robinson turned himself in on September 11, 2025, the day after the fatal September 10 shooting at Utah Valley University. He actually wore a suicide smock to his arraignment. As of now, he has not pleaded guilty or not guilty in court.

Evidence against Robinson included Discord messages, conversations with roommates, admissions from family members and gaming culture influencers.
