New Delhi: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra While speaking on the proposed women’s reservation bill on Thursday, she took aim at the Lok Sabha Center and used sharp Chanakya language, eliciting laughter from the Union Home Minister Amit Shah himself and the treasury hon.Priyanka, who supports the idea of reserving seats for women lawmakers, said her party was not opposed to female representation per se but was questioning what she said was the political intent behind the timing and framing of the bill. She believes the ruling New Democratic Alliance is using the measure as an electoral tactic rather than a purely reform-driven step.
In her speech, she also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s earlier speech praising the BJP’s record on women’s empowerment and accusing the government of weakening constitutional principles while portraying itself as a champion of women’s rights.As the BJP bench erupted in laughter, Priyanka quipped bitterly that the ruling party seemed well prepared and said even Chanakya, if he were alive today, would be surprised by their political acumen.“If Chanakya were alive today, he would have been surprised after seeing the BJP’s conspiracy to win the election,” Priyanka said.Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had “assured” that no injustice would be done to any state, while also apprehending that Uttar Pradesh might gain delimitation benefits at the expense of southern Indian states.“I guarantee that no injustice will be done to any state from east to west, from north to south,” the Prime Minister said in the Lok Sabha during the Delimitation Bill 2026 and Women Quota Bill.
