The battle for Champdani in 2026 is between TMC incumbent Arindam Guin, the BJP’s Dilip Singh and the Congress’s Pritam Ghosh.Champdani (Ward No. 187) is an urban-dominated constituency in Hooghly district and is part of the Sreerampur Lok Sabha segment. It covers Champdani city, Baidyabati city, parts of Serampore city and Payarapur gram panchayat. The constituency is largely industrial in nature and is home to a large working-class population historically aligned with trade union politics. Sheoraphuli and Baidyabati towns also come under its jurisdiction. In 2021, TMC’s Arindam Guin, former president of Baidiapati Municipality, defeated Dilip Singh of the BJP by over 30,000 votes. Notably, Dilip Singh is again the 2026 BJP nominee and will face a direct rematch. In 2016, Congress MP Abdul Mannan (supported by the Left Front) defeated the TMC candidate to win the seat, making it one of the rare constituencies where the left-Congress alliance won. Mannan later became leader of the opposition in the state parliament. The TMC stormed back to the seat in 2021 and Arindam Guin is now seeking a second consecutive term against the same BJP rival.
