New Delhi: In partnership with election committee Wednesday, Trinamool Congress (TMC) vacillated, calling Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar a “Joel, criminal” and accusing him of having a “partisan attitude”. According to TMC leaders, the “seven-minute” meeting ended abruptly with the CEC telling their delegation to “fuck off”.“Outlining the details of the meeting, TMC leader Derek O’Brien said the party’s delegation included House of Commons MPs Sagarika Ghose and Menaka Guruswamy, former MP Saket Gokhale and himself.“All like-minded anti-BJP parties will hold a press conference at the Constitution Club today between approximately 4:30 and 4:45 pm,” O’Brien said.
Nine letters, zero replies.
Rajya Sabha member O’Brien explained that the delegation submitted nine letters written by TMC top leaders Mamata Banerjee submitted to the European Commission but received no acknowledgment or reply. “We point out that if these letters were from Narendra Modi or Amit Shah, the Central Election Commission would have responded immediately,” he said. The TMC also provided a list of six Bengal army officers allegedly associated with the BJP along with photographic evidence. “We asked them to move, including the CEO who met with BJP workers in Nandigram. The memorandum took only 2-3 minutes and the CEC’s response was simple: ‘Get lost’,” O’Brien said.
The delegation was silent
O’Brien also mentioned that the Central Election Commission did not allow any of his officials to speak. “I have been in TMC for 22 years and in Parliament for 16 years and I have seen many constitutional authorities but what I witnessed today is regrettable,” he said. He asked the EC to release the audio or video of the meeting to prove otherwise.
Media reports are conflicting
After the meeting, the media updated that “the elections in West Bengal will be without fear, without violence, without inducements, and without any chapa, stall jamming.” O’Brien questioned who had sent the letter and insisted, “The CEC is a bastard, a criminal. He didn’t say a word in the meeting. The only thing he said was ‘Get out’.”The TMC delegation accused the CEC of trying to play games with the party and said: “Gyanesh Kumar, you don’t know who you are dealing with. This is Mamata Banerjee, Abhishek Banerjee and TMC. “O’Brien concluded by inviting all anti-BJP parties to the press conference and promised to speak in Hindi, English and Bengali for inclusivity.
