This is the first official visit to the UK by the Indian Defense Command and the fifth high-level military contact between the UK and India this year, following the visit of Chief of Air Staff Marshal Harvest Smith to India in March.
India’s Chief of Defense Staff General Anil Chauhan’s official visit to the UK, where he was received by the UK’s Chief of Defense Staff Sir Richard Knighton, underlines India’s strong and future-focused defense partnership with the UK. He also interacted with the Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Mr. Vikram K Doraiswami,” Integrated Defense Staff (IDS) Headquarters posted on X.
IDS further stated: “This visit will further deepen defense cooperation and promote defense industry and intelligence cooperation, cyber cooperation, strategic communication and joint exercises. This visit strengthens shared commitment to global security, stability and resilience.”
Representatives of the British defense industry plan to meet General Chouhan to advance negotiations between the two countries to strengthen joint defense production.
British High Commissioner to India Lindy Cameron said: “General Chauhan’s landmark visit demonstrates the trust and ambition that drives the UK-India defense partnership. We are strengthening our cooperation to strengthen interoperability, stimulate innovation and support a free, open and secure Indo-Pacific.” “From joint training and defense industry cooperation to strategic dialogue, we are moving faster and closer because India is a key defense partner for the UK. We will continue to build on this momentum in the coming months,” she said.
In February this year, the UK and India signed an agreement under which the Indian Air Force would deploy three qualified flying instructors to RAF Valley, a training base for British fast jet pilots. Indian officers serve as instructors in all three British military academies.
The visit comes after India and the UK launched a 10-year defense industry roadmap under the Vision 2035 agreement to support growth, enhance security and contribute to international stability.
