Ravichandran Ashwin Shares his predictions for the IPL 2026 playoffs and sheds light on the tough path ahead for the Chennai Super Kings after the table took another dramatic turn after Kolkata Knight Riders’ thumping win over Delhi Capitals.KKR kept their playoff hopes alive with a commanding win while chasing 143 runs. Despite early wickets, Finn Allen and Cameron Green did an excellent job of steadying the innings, with Allen smashing his first IPL century to lead Kolkata to a comfortable victory. The result adds to an already tight playoff race. In the points table, Sunrisers Hyderabad continue to lead with 14 points from 11 games while Punjab Kings are second with 13 points from 10 games. Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals occupy the third and fourth spots with 12 points respectively. Gujarat Titans are also firmly in contention with 12 points to their name, although their negative net run rate could become a major issue later in the game. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings are in sixth place with 10 points from 10 games and have a lot of work to do if they want to stay alive in the competition.
Talking about the playoff battle on his YT channel Ash Ki Baat, Ashwin predicted that SRH and RCB will almost certainly advance, while the remaining two spots may be up for grabs between Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab.“SRH and RCB have been decided. Between GT, RR and PBKS, the other two playoff spots will be decided,” Ashwin said. The veteran spinner also explained why CSK cannot afford any mistakes in the remaining matches.“For CSK to qualify, they have to win the remaining four games. They cannot leave it to fate. Even with 16 points, qualification will depend on RR losing three out of four games, PBKS dropping points and CSK maintaining a strong NRR,” he added.Ashwin emphasized the importance of net run rate and highlighted Chennai’s upcoming match against Lucknow Supergiants as a potential turning point in their season.“This is where the net run rate becomes important. I feel if Chennai wins both games against LSG, they will not only advance but go all the way, just like in 2010. Every game here is a blockbuster.”
