The sentencing on Tuesday started with Caleb Flynn reiterating that he did not kill his wife. Mike Tobin of Fox News reported that his hands were shaking as he apologized for the hurtful things he said in the text messages produced as evidence in the court. He then broke down in tears. It was followed by statements from the family of Ashley Flynn.

“I made vows to Ashley on our wedding day. I failed in those vows,” Caleb Flynn said, as tears rolled down his eyes. “As I stand here before God, who is my ultimate judge, I am not lying when I say I did not kill my wife.”

“You, Mr. Flynn, pose an extreme risk to the public” Miami County, Ohio Judge Jeannie Pratt said as the sentencing deliberations began on each of the nine counts of charges against Flynn. “You used your faith to manipulate the lives of others.”

Flynn is convicted of murdering Ashley Flynn at their Tipp City, Ohio, home on February 16 and staging the scene as a home intrusion. Prosecutors alleged that Caleb Flynn killed his wife to get out of the marriage.

Texts With ‘Mistress’ Alleigha Botner Key Evidence

Central to the guilty verdict that was handed to Caleb Flynn on September 30 was texts he had exchanged with Alleigha Botner, a former intern at Flynn’s church with whom he was having an affair.

The two of them had exchanged over 100,000 text messages between 2021 and 2022, when Botner was 20-year-old. Those were key evidence that prosecutors presented during the trial.

Alleigha Botner also testified and revealed that she and Caleb Flynn had talked about killing Ashley. It included a text that Caleb Flynn had sent to Botner the night before Ashley Flynn was shot dead. It said, “I choose you. I’m free. Actions will come tomorrow.”

Flynn’s defense attorneys argued that he had not fired a gun on the day of the shooting. They picked up on the missing murder weapon which police were not unable to find.

The prosecutors argued there were fingerprints of Flynn all around the house showing he had been moving around, despite claiming that he was asleep when the supposed home intrusion happened.
