British Radio Caroline apologizes for broadcast of King Charles III’s unexpected death World News

A British radio station has apologized for mistakenly broadcasting the death of King Charles III due to a computer error, The Guardian reports. The false claim was aired on Tuesday afternoon by long-established Essex-based broadcaster Radio Caroline. Its main studio accidentally triggered the internal “Death of the Monarch” program, leading to the false announcement of the king’s death. The station later went off the air briefly before returning to normal programming.Station manager Peter Moore explained the incident in a Facebook post.Moore wrote: “Due to a computer error in our main studio, the Death of the Monarch program that all UK television stations had prepared for but hoped would not be needed was accidentally launched on Tuesday afternoon, incorrectly announcing the death of His Majesty the King.”“Caroline Radio then complied with the request and remained silent, prompting us to reinstate the program and issue an on-air apology.”He added: “We apologize to His Majesty the King and our listeners for any distress caused.”The incident occurred during King Charles and Camilla’s visit to Northern Ireland, where they attended an event in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter.Radio Caroline was founded in 1964 and became famous as one of the UK’s most famous pirate radio stations, originally broadcasting from ships anchored off the British coast. The station continued to operate intermittently after the Anti-Piracy Broadcasting Act of 1967 and later became part of British broadcasting history, providing inspiration for films such as Rocking the Boat.
