The 35-year-old man was found dead after calling authorities in Hays, North Carolina, the North Carolina Bureau of Investigation said in a statement, NBC News reported.
“I can confirm that Brandi Reynolds was delivering mail on her route when the incident occurred,” said U.S. Postal Inspector Michael Martel.

Reynolds was allegedly killed by William Craig Durham, 56, of the Roaring River community. He was charged by Wilkes County prosecutors with first-degree kidnapping and murder. He was arrested the day of the murder and remained in the Wilkes County Jail on Tuesday, according to a third-party inmate information service used by Wilkes County.
While the exact motive for the murder is unclear, we do know that Durham allegedly restrained Reynolds and “moved the victim from one location to another without the victim’s consent.” He shot Reynolds, according to an arrest report obtained by The Charlotte Observer.
An arrest warrant filed in district court claims Durham committed kidnapping “by unlawfully restraining the victim and moving the victim from one location to another without the victim’s consent.” It added that Durham carried out the alleged kidnapping “with the intent to intimidate” Reynolds and “inflict grievous bodily harm” on her.
District Court Judge Robert J. Crumpton said Durham had a “serious criminal record” and ordered that he remain detained without bail. State prison records show Durham has previously been incarcerated on charges including second-degree kidnapping, assault on a female and possession of a firearm by a felon.
