Brampton man Gurkanwar Singh pleads guilty after shooting in 'careless and unsafe' Jeep

A 24-year-old Sikh man who sparked a police investigation and firearms charges after video showed a reckless shooting of a Jeep on public land in Ontario has pleaded guilty.Gurkanwal Singh pleaded guilty in a Bracebridge court to careless use of a firearm after authorities linked him to video of shots being fired in an unsafe manner in the Georgian Bay area. The case first came to attention in 2025 when a video went viral on social media showing several men getting out of a car on a bridge near Bracebridge and firing shots into the air. Ontario Provincial Police called the behavior “careless and unsafe.”The court heard that on February 3, 2025, police were called to Georgian Bay Township and found a Jeep stuck on Crown land. Singer was identified as the driver and a gun was found in the vehicle.Investigators later obtained videos from an Instagram account associated with Singer. Video showed him using multiple firearms and firing recklessly from the same vehicle, the court said.Court proceedings also revealed that Singh obtained a Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) while living in Canada on a work permit.Judge Edward Carlton questioned why Singer obtained a firearms license and purchased the gun.Defense lawyers told the court that Singh was not a hunter and called the incident a “stupid decision”.Prosecutors argued that Singer should be fined $1,000 and have his firearms confiscated, while the defense sought an absolute discharge.Judge Carlton ordered a pre-sentence report before deciding the penalty. The case is expected to return to court for sentencing later this month.Police earlier charged Brampton resident Singer with two counts of careless use of a firearm. As part of the investigation, authorities also seized his firearms and revoked his firearms license.
