“For every Bengali, the Ganga occupies a very special place. It can be said that the Ganga flows through the soul of Bengal. Her sacred waters carry the eternal spirit of the entire civilization. This morning in Kolkata, I spent some time on the banks of the Hooghly and it was an opportunity to express my gratitude to the Maa Ganga,” the Prime Minister Modi Said in X’s post.“I also had the opportunity to meet hard-working boatmen and morning walkers, whose hard-working nature was admirable. Hooghly reaffirms our commitment towards the development of West Bengal and the prosperity of the great people of Bengal,” he added.The visit comes amid ongoing political activity in the state. Prime Minister Modi was addressing a rally in Krishna Nagar on Thursday ahead of the next phase of assembly elections. He also visited Belur Math and offered prayers there.Voting for the parliamentary elections ends at 6 pm on Thursday. Data from the Election Commission of India showed that the voter turnout rate in the first phase of West Bengal was 91.91%, higher than the 84.80% in Tamil Nadu.The BJP aims to overthrow Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress party. Calling the high turnout an “overwhelming mandate for change”, Prime Minister Modi said May 4 (counting day) will mark the “expiry” of the TMC’s “15-year-old syndicate system and Maha Jungle rule” in the state. chief minister Mamata BanerjeeHowever, he said poll trends so far indicate that the TMC is “already in a position to win” and the party is expected to win in 125-134 of the 152 constituencies.
