CHENNAI: On any other day, beige would be a hue that fades into the background. On Thursday, however, the color stood out.As voting got underway, men and women across Tamil Nadu turned up at polling stations wearing white shirts and beige trousers. TVK founder Vijay’s signature style since entering the political arena has become an unspoken “dress code” among his supporters on polling day.“I wore beige and white so everyone knew who I was supporting,” said Rupa Lakshmi, a first-time voter in Chennai. Uncomfortable in a shirt, Sunitha M appeared in a white kurta teamed with beige pants and a dupatta. “I don’t want to be left out.”The look has been trending for days, with content creators promoting the look as “outfit inspiration for voting day.”Color-coded political expression has been part of the state’s culture for decades.DMK loyalists are usually associated with black and red, while VCK supporters usually opt for blue. Now, TVK’s beige adds a whole new color to the political spectrum. This begs the question – why are DMK’s MK Stalin and BJP’s K Annamalai also wearing white and beige?
