New Delhi: Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma Former state Congress chief Bhupan Bora will join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on February 22, it was announced on Tuesday. Sarma met Bora at his residence in Guwahati this evening.Sarma told reporters, “Bhubun Bora will join the BJP on February 22. Dilip Sakya will work out the details. Along with him, many Congress leaders from Guwahati and North Lakhimpur will also join the BJP.”He described Bora as “the last recognized Hindu leader in the Congress” and said the national leadership of the BJP had approved his induction. “Our national President Nitin Nabin has approved his entry and welcomed him. Bhupen Bora will be treated with all due respect and dignity,” Sarma said.Calling the move a “homecoming”, the chief minister said, “Joining the BJP is like a homecoming for him because there are many people like him in this party whose fathers did not hold any senior office.”
