Bengal Victory promises BJP postponement of Lok Sabha dividend

New Delhi: The BJP’s strong performance in West Bengal will give the party an edge in the Upper House after the next assembly elections as the earliest vacancies in the state will be announced in August 2029.Similarly, in Tamil Nadu, the impact will be felt after two years. The state assembly election results will help a new political entity enter the upper house in June 2028, when the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) makes its debut by sending at least three members to the federal house, while the DMK, Congress and AIADMK will send one member each.Regardless, the PPP’s overall MLA strength – which increased from 773 MLAs in September 2013 to 1,798 MLAs in May 2026 – will continue to increase the party’s legislative influence in the upper house.
