Adding a touch of humor to the alarming incident, Stokes wrote in one of his posts: “You should look at the state of cricket.”On Tuesday, Stokes updated fans at the hospital with another photo, confirming that the surgery went well.

“It may not look like it, but the surgery was successful,” he wrote, reassuring supporters while also underlining the seriousness of the injury. Reports suggest the England captain was not batting or bowling, but was standing next to the net when the ball hit him.The surgery comes at a challenging time for Stokes, who has just returned to England after a disappointing Ashes tour in which the series was lost 4-1 to Australia. While he reiterated his desire to continue leading the Test team, his long-term captaincy remains under scrutiny as the England and Wales Cricket Board conducts a review.Stokes has been absent from England’s white-ball matches since the 2023 World Cup and is not involved in the ongoing T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. His next appearance is likely to be for County Durham ahead of England’s home Test season against New Zealand at Lord’s on June 4 – a game that coincides with his 35th birthday.
