Beech Grove police shooting: Officers open fire near high school, Marion County searching for suspect

Two officers from the Beech Grove Police Department were shot and killed near Beech Grove High School in Marion County. Indiana The suspect was on the run Monday afternoon. The incident occurred at the Diplomatic Court near the school.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) said the suspect is believed to be “armed and dangerous” and is on the run and a manhunt is ongoing, adding that they are assisting the Beech Grove Police Department in the manhunt.

IMPD describes shooting The suspect is described as “a black male approximately 30 years old, wearing a black shirt, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.” An earlier update asked residents to shelter in place while the manhunt continued.

Local Fox affiliate Fox59 reported that police arrived at the scene of the incident at 5:37 pm local time. The alert was upgraded to a manhunt around 5:45 p.m.

IMPD said Emerson Avenue was closed from Churchman Avenue to Interstate 465, and drivers and pedestrians were asked to use alternative routes.

Beech Grove High School is located at 5330 Hornet Ave. in Beech Grove, on the east side of the city near Diplomat Court.
