Bangladesh envoy visits EAM Jaishanakar and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal in a bid to re-establish relations

New Delhi: As India and Bangladesh seek a pragmatic reset of ties, Bangladesh High Commissioner Riaz Hamidullah on Friday called the external affairs minister Sujashankar And the Minister of Industry and Commerce Piyush Goyal.Jaishankar said the conversation with Hamidullah was focused on advancing bilateral relations. In a post on social media regarding a “courtesy visit”, the High Commissioner said he affirmed Bangladesh’s willingness to partner and collaborate with India for mutual benefit and mutual benefit.Hamidullah’s meetings with senior Indian ministers in the capital were rare since his appointment as high commissioner last April. He described Goyal as a leader of extraordinary intelligence, passion and vision and said the commerce minister shared his vision of deepening economic partnership.“Besides resolving prevailing trade-related issues, discussions were also held on how to take forward the broader Bangladesh-India economic partnership for the mutual benefit of the people of both countries,” Hamidullah said on X.India received a request from Dhaka during the crisis in West Asia to continue supplying diesel under a long-term energy trade contract between the two countries. India said it would consider the request, keeping in mind its own fuel needs. The two countries also hope to finalize the date for a visit by Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Khalil Rehman in April.
