Humpy qualified for the 2025 Women’s World Cup after finishing second. However, concerns related to regional tensions reportedly influenced her choice.

The organizers reacted strongly

Her withdrawal was not recognized by Cyprus Chess Federation president Creton Tonaritis, who publicly criticized her remarks. He referred the matter toHe strongly refuted her claims, adding, “The 2026 Women’s Candidates Championship is one of the largest and most important chess events in the world. This is simply wrong. This is a bad move.”FIDE has confirmed that with Hampi’s elimination, Ukrainian player Anna Muzychuk will take her place.
