Aria Thorpe: British teen accused of murdering 9-year-old girl claims she ‘walked in with knife’ during fight News of the World

A 16-year-old boy accused of fatally stabbing 9-year-old Aria Thorpe claimed the fatal injury occurred during what he described as a “fight,” the BBC reported. The teenager denies murder and manslaughter charges after Alia died at a house in Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset, on December 15 last year.Prosecutor Ray Tully KC told Bristol Crown Court the defendant admitted he was holding the knife at the time of the fatal injury. He claimed he wanted to scare Alia and hoped she would flinch when he stabbed her with the knife, prosecutors said.An autopsy found Alia died from a single stab wound that pierced her heart and lungs. Medical evidence suggests that at least mild force is required to cause harm.Jurors heard that after the incident the teenager went to a nearby train station and told a group of young people that he had stabbed a child.“I was playing with a knife. She walked into it. I accidentally stabbed her with a very large knife,” he allegedly said.The court heard he also called himself a “murderer”, said “I’m done… why would I do this?” and borrowed his mobile phone to search online for “what happens if you kill someone”.The police station received a call from a young man. The teenager later boarded the train but was spotted by police and arrested.Prosecutors said that although the boy later expressed regret during the police interview, he did not initially mention any fighting or claim that Alia walked in on the knife.“I grabbed a knife and stabbed her in the chest. I didn’t use a lot of force, but it was a large knife. I don’t know why I did it, it just happened,” he told detectives in a statement.
