Social media influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate were denied bail on Wednesday by a US court as they fight extradition to Britain, where they are wanted over rape and other charges.Magistrate Judge Lauren Louis denied the brothers’ request for release from a Miami jail following a hearing last month in federal court.Andrew Tate, 39, and Tristan Tate, 38, were arrested in Miami on July 18 after Britain sought their extradition. They face charges including rape, assault and facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation. The brothers, who hold both US and British citizenship, have denied any wrongdoing.US prosecutors argued that the brothers should remain in custody, citing the presumption of detention in international extradition cases. They said the Tates could pose a danger to the community and could attempt to flee.Prosecutors also cited allegations from British authorities that the brothers strangled victims during alleged rapes. They pointed to separate human trafficking cases in Romania, where authorities have alleged that the brothers tried to influence witnesses while under judicial supervision.The defence rejected the arguments for continued detention. Lawyers said the brothers’ “extraordinary public visibility” would make it difficult for them to flee and argued that they had complied with court proceedings in Romania.The lawyers had proposed releasing the brothers on bond, with conditions including surrendering their passports and wearing location-monitoring devices.The extradition process could take months. Britain has until September 16 to submit its full extradition request to the US State Department, according to US court records.The latest arrests followed new charges brought by Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service over alleged offences involving four victims between July 2010 and August 2017.
