Just as several Indians living in the United States continued to update their current situation on social media platforms, a senior financial analyst disclosed his “brutal” experience after being “fired for three months.” H-1B“.
The man from India said in a Reddit post that he is a senior financial analyst who previously worked at AMD and has more than six years of experience in semiconductor and hardware finance.
“I got laid off about three months ago. I’ve been struggling in America ever since, which is brutal. But honestly, finding a job right now isn’t the hardest part,” reddit editor wrote. However, HT.com cannot independently verify the authenticity of its claims.
He further revealed that his wife is currently in India, adding that she submitted an H4 (dependent visa) application after extending his stay. H-1B The visa was valid until 2031, but unfortunately, it was refused.
“It was like this. We’d been long-distance for almost two years and this was supposed to be the thing where we finally got together. But that didn’t happen. I was sitting alone in my apartment applying for jobs every day while she was on the other side of the world — and I’m not going to lie, it was killing me,” he said, revealing the emotional toll of being away from his wife.
When the financial analyst began to consider the possibility of returning to India, he emphasized that this was not an admission of failure; Rather, it was a decision that suited his current life situation.
However he told Reddit user He had several questions but wasn’t sure who to turn to for answers.
His seven questions include: “Is US experience really valuable in India or just a talking point?”, “Which cities make sense for my profile?” and “Should I apply from here or wait until I land?”.

He further clarified, “I’m not looking for sympathy, I’m looking for people who have actually been through this. What would you have done differently? What worked? What didn’t work?”
“If you’ve returned to India from the US in the last 2-3 years – especially in finance, analytics or tech – I’d really like to hear from you. Message me privately or drop me a line in the comments,” reddit editor additional.
Meanwhile, several people responded to his post and the questions he posted. However, some expressed shock at the fact that his H-1B visa was extended until 2031.
“Hey man! Just out of curiosity, how is it possible that the H1B is valid until 2031? Even if you extend it this year, the maximum validity is until 2029. Did I miss something? Is this your first H1b?” one user commented.
“How did you get your H1 until 2031? Can’t H1b only be extended for 3 years? Anyway, this is not the focus of your post. I wish you good luck in your trip to India.” Another netizen said.
“Honestly with your experience you should expect between 20-30 LPA. Pune is the best in BFSI field. You will get enough interview calls bro and you don’t have to worry about being undervalued in India. The toughest part in your experience range is clearing the interviews because India has beast level competition. After all India is home 🏠,” said a third user.
