A possible plane crash occurred near the Akron, Ohio, airport on Tuesday. “Plane crashed in Akron,” one user claimed on X, sharing a screenshot of a first responder alert.
Another source added that the Akron Fire Department responded “strongly” following the incident in Akron’s Fulton neighborhood. However, the North Lawrence, Ohio Fire Department confirmed there was no plane crash. “There were no downed aircraft,” the spokesman said. They added that the area was closed to traffic while crews attempted to clear the scene.
Local news pages also shared updates on the fire. “AFD is clearing the scene without incident. It is now believed to be a large open burn fire and not a plane crash. There was a lot of baseball going on and it appears someone called in. AFD is clearing the scene,” they explain.
Akron report sparks panic; some locals offer clarification
Reports of the Akron fires caused panic among many. One person shared a video and wrote “This is weird because I was actually just driving on the highway and saw this at the Mogador exit 12 minutes ago. I wish it wasn’t like this”.
Another said: “I saw a lot of emergency vehicles at the top of George Washington Boulevard next to Derby Downs.” Meanwhile, others rushed to clarify.
One person commented: “We’re right there, no plane crash. Big black fog, but not sure where it’s coming from. Lots of trucks at the scene.” Another commented: “Just drove by, emergency crews cleaning up. Nothing to see. Maybe he fell on the road?”. Another said: “I’m near Springfield High School and it smells bad.”
Others expressed prayers that everyone involved was “safe” and “all goes well.”
