New Delhi: Ten months after tragedy Air India plane crash Around 30 grieving families have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging the release of cockpit voice recorder (CVR) and flight data recorder (black box) data following a plane crash in Ahmedabad that killed 260 people. On June 12, Air India flight AI 171, a Boeing 787-8, crashed into the medical college dormitory shortly after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on its way to London. The plane caught fire, killing 241 of the 242 people on board and 19 on the ground.Families of the victims who met in Ahmedabad on Saturday said the release of the black box and CVR data was crucial to uncovering the truth behind the disaster.“We want to know the truth about the cause of the crash and whether there were any technical issues,” they said.Copies of their letter were also sent to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Families have demanded that if the black box data cannot be made public, it should at least be shared with them privately.A response from the airline to the family’s request is pending. AAIB has submitted a preliminary investigation report in July 2025. According to PTI, the final report is expected to be released in June 2026.
