New Delhi: With artificial intelligence rapidly expanding in healthcare, Vice President CP Radhakrishnan told graduates at the 51st graduates convocation on Tuesday Artificial intelligence management system No technology can replace the “moral weight of the physician at the patient’s bedside.”Addressing students at the Bharat Mandapam, the Vice President said AIIMS Delhi is no longer just keeping pace with the world but is “actively setting the pace for the future of medicine”. He urged young doctors and scientists to promote the values of compassion, innovation and public trust.At the commencement ceremony, the college conferred 523 degrees in undergraduate, postgraduate, superprofessional, doctoral, nursing and allied health science programs.Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda said India’s medical education capacity has expanded dramatically in the past decade, with the number of medical colleges increasing from about 390 to 825 and medical seats reaching 1.25 lakh. He said the government plans to create another 75,000 undergraduate and postgraduate medical seats in the next two to three years.There are currently 23 AIIMS institutions in India, of which 16 have been established in recent years, Nadda said, adding that AIIMS Delhi has a special responsibility in mentoring new institutions across the country.During the ceremony, graduates recited the Charak Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to ethical medical practice and patient care. Degrees awarded include DM, MCh, MD, MS, MDS, MBBS, PhD, nursing and allied health science qualifications, as well as fellowships in emerging specialties such as bariatric surgery, hepatology, and blood and bone marrow transplantation.AIIMS Director Dr Nikhil Tandon said the institute has emerged as a leader in AI-driven healthcare innovations, including AI-assisted screening tools for diabetic retinopathy, oral cancer and radiology applications. He also highlighted the ranking of AIIMS Delhi Hospital among the top hospitals in the world and recognition by the World Health Organization in multiple areas of public health and research.The institute also honored five former faculty members with Lifetime Achievement Awards for their contributions to medical science, research and patient care.
