DCH shooting: 1 person shot to death at Tuscaloosa Regional Medical Center; first details after horrific video emerges

Tuscaloosa Police Department releases statement explain “A suspect is in custody following a fatal shooting in the parking lot of DCH Regional Medical Center. There is no danger to the public at the time. The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit is investigating the situation and will release information as the investigation continues.”

Several local media outlets reported on the incident on Tuesday. At this time, what led to the shooting is unclear.

One person shared a map of where the shooting occurred and wrote: “We have received a report of a female gunshot victim deceased at DCH. A suspect is in custody. No further details at this time. VCU and TPD are on scene. Cap Ray.”

Another netizen shared a video of the scene and wrote, “How do people shoot at a scene?” Hospital ! This has gotten out of hand. “A police presence was visible in the area.

DCH shooting: Reaction overwhelming.

Several people reacted to news of the shooting at DCH. One wrote “Ole Woltz City Wild West.” Another added: “Wow what a waste of life, all life is precious,” while others prayed.

One person expressed concern and asked: “I just got off work from the regional DCH. Where is this? Northport?”. Another shared a personal experience unrelated to the shooting. “It’s so sad. I saw a girl being beaten today and it broke my heart. I stopped and asked her if she was okay and could I take her somewhere and then I called 911.”

Many people began tagging people they knew and asking if they were okay. It is unclear whether there is any ongoing threat to the public, which authorities have now clarified. “Is this where our children go?” one netizen also asked.

Someone else said: “There was a shooting at DCH Hospital. An adult woman died from a gunshot wound. I’m at Manderson Cancer Center today.”

The shooting prompted others to lament the state of policing in Tuscaloosa. “Tuscaloosa is quickly turning into Montgomery/Bessemer/Birmingham (take your pick),” one person wrote. Another quipped: “Another reason they say ‘don’t come to the hospital’.”
