Former Chief of Army Staff General Naravane
New Delhi: In the wake of the controversy surrounding his unpublished memoir “Four Stars of Destiny”, former Army Chief General MM Naravane (retd) told a news channel in a separate interview that it was “completely unfair to drag me and the army into politics” using an unpublished book to score points, claiming that he was not abandoned by the government during the height of the real-line standoff with China in 2020.He spoke candidly about Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha and brandished his unpublished memoirs in Parliament to attack the Modi government on the issue.Naravane, who has written a new book, “Curiosity and Secrets: Uncovering Military Myths and Mysteries,” said he had the full support and authorization of the government to fire on Chinese soldiers if the situation required it during the standoff with China on the Line of Actual Control.“The person at the helm is always alone, be it a CEO or a national leader. But that does not mean you are abandoned. The entire country is behind you, your entire army is with you,” General Naravane (retd) told a news channel.A few months ago, Rahul tried to slam the government by quoting excerpts from Naravane’s unpublished book, in which the retired general alleged that the prime minister (through the defense minister) told him “jo uchit samjho wo karo” (do what you think is right) before seeking orders from the government during a confrontation with Chinese soldiers at the Rechin La pass.The former Army chief added that there was nothing in the book that was cause for alarm.In his new book, General Naravane “pulls back the curtain that has yet to be drawn, revealing some of the most fascinating and compelling mysteries that color the legends and lore of this world. indian armyNavy and Air Force,” his publisher, Rupa Publications, announced on Wednesday.
