The injury forced him to be hospitalized and caused significant weight loss. “Recovery after injury is always challenging. I lost around 7 kg due to the injury, which was a serious case. Thankfully, I was back in good shape after two months. But it took a lot of effort to regain those 7 kg. I love challenges and this is one I had to overcome. I am happy that I got through this phase and came back to represent my team and represented India in the previous series. I am proud of myself,” Iyer told reporters at the pre-season press conference.

Despite the setback, Iyer worked hard to regain fitness and return to competitive cricket. He resumed captaining Mumbai in domestic cricket after a mixed run that included a tepid ODI series against New Zealand. Still, his focus remains on improving and providing leadership from the front. Talking again about his recovery, he said: “Coming back after an injury is always challenging. I lost about seven kilograms and it took a lot of hard work to get back to my original weight. But I love challenges. I’m glad I overcame this part of my life and I’m proud to be back here representing the team.” Iyer, who now leads Kings XI Punjab, is completely focused on winning the IPL trophy. “The expectations are high and it’s fun. I like the challenge. But the important thing is that whenever we step in, we have to win. My eyes are on the trophy,” he added. He highlighted the team’s cohesion off the field, saying “it’s a two-month period in our lives as a family” and highlighted how spending time together can help improve performance.teammate Ardeep Singh Echoing the positivity, he said: “When you feel the pressure, it’s a privilege.”
