Shocking videos have surfaced as the Newark Police Department investigates a shooting incident on East Main Street near Choate Street just after 11 pm Saturday, October 31. A large number of police were responding to a shooting on Main Street just off of University of Delaware’s campus on Halloween night, NBC Philadelphia reported.
Drivers and pedestrians have been urged to avoid the area as police continue to work an active investigation.
Videos are being shared on social media with the claim that it shows people near the crime scene fleeing. AZ Intel shared a video on X:
Facebook user Shannon Troncoso also shared a video she said her daughter sent her.

“My daughter Mirabella just sent me a video from Main Street at the University of Delaware. People are running everywhere. There are reports of people being shot, people being killed, and people being struck by cars as everyone tries to get away. The cameras have apparently been shut off, and right now information is still coming in,” she wrote on Facebook, sharing the video.
She added, “Thank God my daughter is okay. I cannot begin to imagine what other parents and families are going through tonight who may not be able to say the same. Please pray for everyone on Main Street, for the students, the families, the first responders, and our entire community. Whatever has happened tonight, there are people out there who are hurting, terrified, and waiting to hear that someone they love is safe. Please pray for Delaware tonight.”

“About 20 minutes ago, I heard from my daughter that two people had been shot on Main Street near the University of Delaware campus. Although elsewhere there’s reports that potentially 6 were shot at UD. I’m also seeing reports tonight of people being shot in Ellendale,” Shannonwrote on Facebook. “I don’t have all the details yet, and obviously these are still developing situations, but enough is enough. These are our communities. These are places where our kids go to school, where families live, work, eat, and walk around every day. It’s time we get things under control. Whatever we are doing right now is not enough.”
University of Delaware shares alert
The University of Delaware shared an alert on social media after the shooting.
“The Newark Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred in the area of E Main Street and Choate Street on October 31, 2026, at approximately 11:13 PM,” the alert reads. “Officers remain on scene conducting an active investigation. Main Street remains closed from Library Avenue through Academy Street while officers conduct their investigation. Avoid the area until further notice. Students who live in the area and need assistance getting to their residence should call UDPD (302-831-2222).”
Police said that they do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the public.
