New Delhi: Ravichandran Ashwin Defending young Indian batsmen Abhishek Sharma after the former Pakistan pacemaker Muhammad Amir During the T20 World Cup, he labeled him “just a jogger”. Amir’s words happened when Abhishek Three straight eliminations in the group stage cast doubt on his skills and hinted at a lack of defense.
Abhishek, however, responded to the criticism in style as he blasted 55 runs off 30 balls as India posted 256/4 in the Super 8 match against Zimbabwe at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. His aggressive knocks helped change the narrative surrounding his game.Ashwin expressed his strong disapproval while responding to Aamir’s comments on his YouTube channel. “There is a video of Mohammad Amir doing rounds in which he calls Abhishek Sharma a jogger. I just want to make one thing clear: you can say anything about his game but he is not a jogger. He has one of the most enviable swings in the game today. We all know that. Yuvraj Singh is his mentor,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.“His bat swing is probably better too. You can’t find a better bat swing. Whenever Abhishek bats, the ball goes very far. So people might mistake him for a jogger. One thing Abhishek is guilty of is showing concentration on every ball.”After Thursday’s knock, Abhishek also admitted that he had been waiting for a performance like this. “It’s always great when you contribute to the team and I’ve been waiting for this moment for so long so it finally happened. I’m really happy… I just wanted to spend some time on the pitch,” he said.He also praised the support of his team. “You’ve done this before and your time is not far off. You just keep believing,” he revealed his teammates told him.
