At least two people were shot and killed at a home near the University of California, Berkeley campus on Friday morning. The shooting happened in the 400 block of Panoramic Way in Oakland, an area located above the campus.

What we know about the shooting
Police responded to the home around 10:45 a.m. after receiving multiple reports of gunshots. Officers found two people with gunshot wounds and performed life-saving measures until firefighters arrived. Both victims died at the scene.
The victims were identified as a 61-year-old man and a 63-year-old person, but their names have not been released. According to ABC7, police said the two appeared to be a married couple.
A firearm was found at the scene. Police have not yet determined the circumstances of the shooting and have not confirmed whether it was a double homicide or a murder-suicide.

Witnesses describe the scene
A Panoramic Hill resident told the Berkeley Scanner that she saw a large number of emergency vehicles heading up the street Friday morning.
“The urgency,” she said. “And the sirens and the sirens and the sirens.”
Authorities told residents shortly after noon that one person had been detained and that there was no need to shelter in place.
“We never received a shelter-in-place message,” the resident added.
UC Berkeley issues statement
Although the shooting happened near the UC Berkeley campus, university police confirmed there was no known threat to the campus.
UC Berkeley issued a statement to the community shortly after 12:30 p.m., saying, “There is an ongoing police investigation regarding a shooting that was reported at approximately 10:48 am. The incident occurred in Oakland on the 400 block of Panoramic Way. There are no known or ongoing threats to the campus. There may be increased police activity in the area of Panoramic Way.
