New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday met groups of women from Arunachal Pradesh who have been subjected to racial and derogatory remarks and assured strict action against those involved in the act.Reiterating in a post onShe further promised tough action against racist miscreants and said: “I want to make it clear that Derry is a city of diversity, respect and mutual dignity. We will take the most severe measures against the criminals involved in this incident. There is absolutely no place for hatred, discrimination, intimidation or racial abuse in Delhi. This behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.“She further emphasized the sensitivity of the matter, urging not to politicize the incident and saying the students’ dignity, privacy and future should still come first.She wrote: “I urge everyone not to politicize this sensitive issue. The dignity, safety and future of our young students must come first. I also ask that all parties involved respect the privacy of young students and their families. We must provide them with the space, support and reassurance they need during this time.”Earlier, in a video address announcing a meeting with students, Gupta said she intended to work with Delhi’s wider northeastern community to address systemic issues and ensure their safety through potential policy interventions.“I will meet not only these sisters but also other Northeastern residents to listen to their problems and provide solutions. If any policy changes are needed, we will implement them. If you have any questions or suggestions, you can PM me directly,” Gupta said.Three women from Arunachal Pradesh were allegedly subjected to racial abuse and criminal intimidation in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area before her meeting with citizens of the Northeast. Delhi Police on Wednesday said accused Ruby Jain and her husband Harsh have been arrested in connection with the matter.The Delhi Police said that during the investigation, relevant sections of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act were invoked based on available records.
