Patel’s appearance came just hours after he posted that the FBI was deploying “all necessary resources” to Mar-a-Lago following the shooting of an armed man near the resort.
Criticism of travel and priorities
Patel, who has previously faced criticism for his use of government aircraft and travel related to personal events, defended the charges by saying he used official aircraft less than his predecessor and was entitled to a personal life.
By law, officials must reimburse the government for non-official travel expenses.
Lawmakers have previously sought records on such reimbursements.
