An anonymous philanthropist has donated Dh35 million to Edge of Life, a Ramadan initiative that aims to help five million children escape hunger. The campaign aims to raise at least Dh1 billion to fund sustainable projects that address child malnutrition around the world.
Ramadan initiative with global goals
The Edge of Life campaign was launched during the holy month of Ramadan by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. It seeks to mobilize large-scale funding to support long-term solutions to childhood hunger, rather than short-term relief.The campaign targets at least Dh1 billion. Funds raised will be invested in sustainable projects aimed at preventing and treating child malnutrition in disadvantaged communities around the world.The initiative builds on the long-term humanitarian vision championed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Efforts to end hunger are seen as an ongoing moral imperative rather than a response to a temporary emergency.The event is carried out within the framework of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiative. It attracts participation from individuals, institutions and businesses, reflecting the UAE community’s culture of giving and its commitment to supporting humanitarian projects serving underserved populations around the world.

The number 11.5 associated with this campaign refers to the mid-upper arm circumference measurement used to detect acute malnutrition in children aged six months to five years.According to World Health Organization guidelines, a measurement below 11.5 centimeters is one of the indicators used to diagnose severe acute malnutrition.
