Clancy36, has entered a plea of not guilty to three counts of murder concerning the deaths of Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months. Although she does not dispute the act of strangling the children with exercise bands in the family’s home in Duxbury, she claims that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and thus was not responsible for her actions during that period.

In contrast to other mothers like Susan Smith and Casey Anthony, who faced public condemnation for the deaths of their children, Clancy has garnered a significant amount of support on social media. This support not only surrounds Clancy but also directs criticism towards the team pursuing her conviction.

Assistant District Attorneys Jennifer Sprague and Shanan Buckingham are leading the prosecution against Lindsay Clancy, who is charged with the murder of her three children in Duxbury.

Lindsay Clancy trial: Here’s what social media watchers and lawyers are saying

“The prosecutors in the Lindsay Clancy case are not only doing a terrible job, but they are disgusting human beings,” TikTok user douglasweinstein wrote as per Court TV.

Amy Santoro, a forensic scientist and former crime scene investigator, shared with her TikTok audience, “The prosecutors in this case are going to lose the jury.”

Defense attorney Mark Eiglarsh, who was a prosecutor in Florida during the 1990s, stated that he was surprised by certain reactions he has observed regarding the case, Court TV reported. “What does surprise me is how quickly some have gone from believing there may be a legitimate mental-health explanation to deciding Lindsay is innocent and the prosecution is the villain. Those are very different conclusions.”

Eiglarsh expressed his belief that the prosecutors are performing “an effective job” in presenting their case. “They’re well-prepared, knowledgeable, and clearly understand the evidence.”

David Bruno, a defense attorney from New Jersey with prior experience as an assistant U.S. attorney and local prosecutor, expressed his belief that the prosecution has committed strategic mistakes in the way it has presented its case. He particularly criticized the decision to summon the medical examiner to testify, which resulted in Clancy breaking down in tears during the proceedings and ultimately caused the prosecutors to undermine their own witness. “What resulted from that, is trying to clean something up from their own witness — which looks horrible, by the way,” Bruno stated, a sper Court TV.

A significant portion of the criticism directed at the prosecution has centered on Assistant State Attorney Shanan Buckingham’s decision to wear hair bows daily throughout the trial. During her opening statement, Buckingham addressed the jury, saying: “Cora had just turned five. She was sweet, silly smart. She loved sparkly dresses and wearing bows in her hair.”

The ‘bow’ row

Every day, Buckingham has adorned her hair with a bow — seemingly a tribute to Cora.

“I’m sorry but if a prosecutor in a triple homicide case is using a child victim’s liking of hair bows as a cheap gimmick and a tactic to manipulate the jury whilst torturing the defendant, then I’m going to start worrying about how strong you believe your case, argument and evidence to be,” user Livingmy_bethlife stated on TikTok.

“The prosecutor’s job is to present the evidence, not visually reinforce it,” lawyer Bruno said.

Eiglarsh stated that he does not perceive the strategy as a mistake, asserting that the prosecution needed to confront the issue of mental illness. “If they had ignored the issue, they would have been doing the jury, and the integrity of the trial, a disservice.”

‘I can’t do this,’ says Lindsay Clancy

During her emotional testimony at the triple murder trial on August 12, Lindsay Clancy exclaimed, “I can’t do this” while sobbing.

Prosecutors contend that she planned the murders by instructing her husband to fetch takeout food and medicine, subsequently strangling the children with exercise bands during his absence. Following this, Clancy inflicted wounds on her wrists and neck before leaping from a second-story window, resulting in her paralysis.

The defense for Clancy asserts that she should not be held criminally responsible due to her suffering from postpartum depression and psychosis at the time of the incidents, which is referred to as an insanity defense. She has entered a plea of not guilty to all three charges.
