’15 of my cousins came here on H-1B’: Indian-origin CEO shuts down trolls, says his family paid millions in taxes in US
As anti-India and anti-H-1B social media users continue their hate campaign, sharing screenshots of Indian groups on social media, payments app CEO Nitish Kannan said 15 of his cousins came to the U.S. on H-1B visas and they all paid tens of millions of dollars in taxes. The comment was in response to a Telugu-shaming post in which a Texan accused Telugus of scamming their way into the United States. The source of the dispute was a designer who wanted to purchase a residential property priced between $1 million and $2 million. “Planning to purchase new construction but looking for the best neighborhoods in Frisco or Prosper. Price range $1M to $2M. Looking for advice,” a screenshot of the Facebook group reads. Sharing this, a Texan wrote: “As a Telugu guy living in a shack with 20 Telugu relatives – win the H-1B lottery, come to the US with fake documents and suddenly be able to afford a brand new $1-2 million home. It makes sense.”Nitish doesn’t understand what’s wrong with an Indian designer who wants to buy a property, as he explains that H-1B can earn six figures a year. “Because everyone is here H1B visa By the way, you can make six figures a year in a tech job and no one is stopping you from getting a job or studying hard or working in a tech field,” Kannan wrote.“I have 15 cousins who came here on H1B visas and they all make over six or seven figures a year, they all own their own homes and are citizens. 100 percent of my family are multi-millionaires, own multiple properties and pay tens of millions of dollars in taxes,” Cannan said. Countering rampant attacks on Indians, Karnan said no one is stopping Americans from making money. “You obviously don’t know. Why don’t you go buy a bunch of motels and then why don’t you guys go manage the motels and run them and no one is going to stop you. Literally, no one is stopping you. Go to Hoop to buy them now,” he wrote. “Go get an SBA loan and buy a motel. No one is stopping you. What are you complaining about? There are thousands of hotels for sale in the United States, literally thousands,” he added. “No one is stopping anyone from starting a tech company, raising money, or hiring any white person, they are welcome to do the same thing and continue to do the same thing,” Kannan said.
