Over 15,000 fake birth records on Maharashtra portal; 5 Jharkhand held

Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar: Nanded’s Usmannagar police have arrested five men from Jharkhand for allegedly misusing the login credentials of the gram panchayat to create 15,569 fake birth records on the Maharashtra government’s Civil Registration System (CRS) portal, reports Mohammed Akhef.An FIR has been lodged against them under Sections 318(4), 337, 336(3), 340(2) and 338 of the BNS for cheating and forgery, besides Sections 65 and 66 of the Information Technology Act.The police action was taken following a complaint filed by Bhavana Kawale (35), the gram panchayat officer of Savaleshwar in Kandal taluka. Police said she had custody of a CRS portal, which was allegedly accessed online by an unidentified person between May 1 and November 30, 2025, and generated 15,569 false birth information, thereby defrauding the Maharashtra government.Nanded SP Abinash Kumar said, “This manipulation was discovered during review of records, following which a case was registered and a detailed cyber investigation was initiated.”
