RANCHO PALOS VERDES, Calif. — Law enforcement authorities have arrested a 38-year-old California man after plainclothes federal agents spotted him filming security preparations outside President Donald Trump’s golf course ahead of a major political fundraiser.

The suspect, identified as Jeanine John Taele of Downey, California, was taken into custody on Sunday near the Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, south of Los Angeles. Authorities publicly disclosed the details of the arrest following court proceedings and ongoing searches.

Suspicious Behavior Triggers Arrest

Federal agents monitoring the property noticed Taele walking around the golf course grounds while taking photographs and videos. Investigators said he appeared to be actively recording security-planning activities two days before President Trump was scheduled to attend a Republican National Committee fundraising event at the venue.

When deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene, they found a 16-round magazine containing hollow-point ammunition in Taele’s pocket. A subsequent search of his parked vehicle uncovered a loaded semi-automatic handgun with a round chambered, along with extra ammunition.

Deputies also discovered that Taele was already wanted by the nearby El Segundo Police Department in connection with an unrelated robbery investigation.

Search Warrant Yields Weapons and Notebooks

Given the potential security threat to the president, federal and local agencies obtained a search warrant for Taele’s residence in Downey. During the search, investigators seized:

  • An illegally modified AR-style rifle and an additional upper receiver
  • High-capacity magazines and bulk quantities of rifle and handgun ammunition
  • Tactical body armor
  • Two radio signal communication devices
  • Personal notebooks containing what officials described as “concerning statements”

Charges and Investigation Status

Taele appeared in court, where he pleaded not guilty to multiple felony firearms and robbery charges, as well as misdemeanor weapon counts. A judge set his bail at $250,000 and issued a protective order requiring him to stay away from the golf course and prohibiting him from possessing firearms.

The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force and the U.S. Secret Service have joined the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in an ongoing investigation into Taele’s background, digital footprint, and potential motives.

Officials emphasized that while the discovery of weapons and notes raised immediate alarms, there is currently no active or credible threat to the surrounding communities.
