Update: WhatsApp appears to be working normally again after users worldwide reported issues with the messaging platform on Monday evening. Many users said they were unable to send media files, including photos, videos, and stickers. By 10:15 p.m. EDT, outage-tracking website DownDetector had stopped receiving new outage reports. Meta, WhatsApp’s parent company, has not yet provided a cause for the outage.

Initial report: Thousands of WhatsApp users worldwide are reporting issues with the messaging platform, with many saying they are unable to send media, including photos, videos and stickers.

Outage-tracking website DownDetector recorded a surge in reports on Monday evening, with complaints peaking at around 6:45 p.m. EDT.

One user wrote, “I can’t send images nor videos.”

Another posted, “Cannot send media. I have another account on Apple and it seems unaffected. So it looks like it is an Android-only issue.”

A third user added, “Cannot send pictures. So I guess multimedia is affected.”

Another commented, “Texts going through but no media.”

One frustrated user wrote, “Won’t let me send stickers or pictures to my bestie :(“

One more person added, “Cannot send anything from my gallery. Always shows retry and no more information about it.”

Meta, WhatsApp’s parent company, has not yet responded to the reports or provided a timeline for resolving the issue.

Social media reports

Many users also took to X (formerly Twitter) to report problems with WhatsApp’s media-sharing feature.

One person wrote, “Can’t send WhatsApp media, Can’t update your statuses? Don’t buy more bundles, don’t restart your phone…Relax and go back to sleep. WhatsApp is down.”

Another added, “I have been on ChatGPt for over an hour now trying to sort problem that randomly grew out of nowhere no knowing it’s actually Whatsapp that have been down all this while. I just had to pause and asked the Werey check if other people are having the same issue.”

Viral post sparks speculation

Amid the outage reports, a post from X account WABetaInfo gained traction. The post claimed, “Please do not install the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.26.31.2 update. A bug prevents users from sending media files. An upcoming update will fix this issue.”

However, there has been no official confirmation from WhatsApp or Meta that the beta update is linked to the reported outage.
