Mitch McConnell health update: Andy Beshear ramps up attacks over Fauci comparisons; ‘Refuses to ask the same questions…’
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear again criticized Sen. Rand Paul, linking ongoing questions surrounding Sen. Mitch McConnell’s health to Paul’s decision to call Dr. Anthony Fauci Before Congress.
On Tuesday, Beshear argued that if Paul thinks Fauci, 85, should answer questions publicly, McConnell, 84, should also speak directly to Kentuckians about his health.
The latest exchange is McConnell While still in a rehabilitation facility after his fall in June, Fauci appeared before a Senate committee and repeatedly invoked his constitutional right against self-incrimination during the trial.

Beshear shared his criticism on X on July 29, writing, “Today Rand Paul wanted to force 85-year-old Dr. Anthony Fauci to address the American people, but refused to ask 84-year-old Mitch McConnell to do the same.”
A day earlier, he sent an open letter to McConnell asking him to “address the people of Kentucky directly orally and provide proof of your ability to serve or resign.”
The governor has repeatedly expressed concerns over McConnell’s health and his absence from public events over the past few weeks. McConnell has not announced plans to seek re-election and continues to work remotely with his staff while recovering.
Paul, the junior senator from Kentucky, dismissed Beshear’s criticism as a political campaign move. The divide adds to an already heated debate over whether older elected officials should publicly answer questions about their ability to continue serving.

Fauci invokes Fifth Amendment
Earlier on July 29, Fauci attended a hearing of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, chaired by Paul.
During the hearing, Fauci cited fifth amendment Several times, he failed to answer questions about the origins of COVID-19, gain-of-function research and the material contained in the more than 1,000 pages of pandemic-era diaries he has released.
Paul argued that Fauci had made inconsistent comments in the past and said the committee could consider contempt proceedings. Fauci, meanwhile, described Paul’s behavior as a “unhinged obsession.”
Mitch McConnell working on return as recovery continues
McConnell was hospitalized on June 14 after falling and briefly losing consciousness at his home in Washington, D.C. He was also treated for mild pneumonia. Doctors ruled out fractures, stroke, heart disease, brain tumors, bleeding and concussions, according to an update from his office.
In a statement released on July 27 with new photos, McConnell said he was “still working to get back to a full schedule.” His primary care physician said the senator continues to undergo vigorous physical therapy sessions several times a day.
The statement also noted that childhood polio remains a major factor affecting his mobility and that he has not yet received medical clearance to leave rehab and return to work in person. McConnell will also miss due to recovery kentucky Dream farm picnic coming soon.
