Hansard died in a single-vehicle accident in his hometown of Dublin on Wednesday morning, the BBC reported. Emergency services were alerted to the incident at around 4.30am and authorities are now looking for witnesses.

Glenn’s family are deeply shocked and heartbroken by this tragic loss and respectfully ask for privacy at this extremely difficult time.”

Glenn Hansard’s acting career
Born and raised in Dublin, Hansard left school at 13 to pursue busking and formed Frames in 1990. The following year he gained international recognition for his role as guitarist Outspan Foster in the BAFTA award-winning musical film The Commitments, about a young North Dublin musician who forms a soul band made up of working-class youths. Hansard devoted himself to recording music with Frames, releasing seven albums from 1991 to 2006, until he starred in the 2007 film Once, which greatly increased his popularity.
