New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday called on the Indian IT sector to take a leadership role not only in service delivery but also in building artificial intelligence products, platforms and solutions that work for India and the world.“India’s IT industry has been the backbone of our services exports and a key driver of economic growth. Artificial intelligence brings both huge opportunities and challenges to the industry…The fundamental change is that artificial intelligence has not replaced the IT industry. It is changing it,” he told ANI.

Prime Minister Modi said at the ET Summit: “A new world order is taking shape and India is ready to lead the global growth engine”

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: “While general AI tools have become widespread, enterprise-level AI adoption is mainly focused on specific areas. Existing IT companies continue to play a key role in solving complex business problems.”Many viewed the Prime Minister’s remarks as a push for Indian software services companies to develop new features, products and platforms – something that many Indian IT companies are not known for despite sitting on large amounts of cash. Global technology giants are also facing challenges from AInative companies such as OpenAI and Anthropic.Modi said that India must not only become a consumer of technology but also a creator of technology, which is the basic pillar of “technology”.Atmanibal Bharat‘ in principle. “My vision is that India should be among the top three AI superpowers in the world, not just in terms of AI consumption but also in terms of creation. Our AI models will be deployed globally, serving billions of people in their native languages. Our AI startups will be worth hundreds of billions, creating millions of high-quality jobs,” the Prime Minister said.The Prime Minister also sought to address concerns about the impact of artificial intelligence on employment, vowing to provide young people with the necessary skills. “I understand the concerns of our young people about the disruption of the AI-driven job market. Being prepared is the best antidote to fear. That’s why we’ve been reskilling and reskilling our workforce to enable an AI-driven future… We’re not looking at this as a problem for the future, we’re looking at it as a current imperative,” he said.Modi said: “History shows that jobs do not disappear due to technology. Its nature changes and new types of employment are created. While some jobs may be redefined, digital transformation will also add new technology jobs to the Indian economy. History tells us that whenever innovation happens, new opportunities emerge. This is also true in the era of artificial intelligence.”
