Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella shares MAI artificial intelligence strategy, saying the new model will reduce costs and provide support for Copilot, Outlook, and Excel
after professional Microsoft Thursday morning’s service outage left many users unable to access platforms including Microsoft 365, Teams and Outlook, according to outage tracking site DownDetector Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella shared a lengthy post on X explaining the company’s latest artificial intelligence strategy. Nadella began his post by asking an important question about the future of artificial intelligence and software.

“In a world where software has true marginal cost for the first time, how do we ensure that cutting-edge benefits are dispersed throughout the ecosystem?” Nadella asked. The answer, he said, is to focus on getting the best results at the lowest possible cost, rather than using only the most powerful AI model. However, the company has yet to provide any explanation for the outage.

Microsoft MAI model explained
Nadella said Microsoft is making rapid progress in improving these artificial intelligence models. He said Microsoft’s goal is to make advanced artificial intelligence available to more users while reducing costs. Nadella explained that Microsoft plans to use the optimized MAI model in products used by millions of people every day.
Nadella said Microsoft is testing this approach in its own products first. The company’s system relies on more than just one artificial intelligence model, he said. he explained artificial intelligence model Just part of Microsoft’s larger artificial intelligence system.
How Microsoft’s artificial intelligence system works
Features such as memory, tools, context, user interaction, skills and artificial intelligence tools also play an important role in improving performance, Nadella said. He said Microsoft expects its AI systems to continue to improve even if a specific AI model is removed from the system.
Nadella said Microsoft uses real product interactions, workflows and customer outcomes to train its AI models. He said this approach gives Microsoft more control over its artificial intelligence systems and allows the company to improve them over time. He added that in some use cases, Microsoft’s MAI model performs better than some general-purpose cutting-edge AI models.
Microsoft AI in everyday products
Nadella said the MAI model uses fewer computational tokens in delivering these results. He said that Microsoft wants to improve every part of the artificial intelligence systems in the products that people use every day.
Nadella says Microsoft is already using MAI model In some cases, they perform as well as or better than cutting-edge AI models. He said Microsoft is already seeing early results using the MAI model in GitHub Copilot, Excel and Outlook.
Nadella added that Microsoft is extending the same AI strategy to Copilot Chat, PowerPoint and other products. He said Microsoft expects these AI systems to improve over time. Nadella also said that enterprise customers can build similar artificial intelligence systems using their own workflows, business data and assessment methods. He said that Microsoft is providing these artificial intelligence tools through Foundry and its artificial intelligence tool chain for enterprises to build their own artificial intelligence systems.
