Exeter City footballer Jayden Wareham’s two-year-old brother died after being pulled unconscious from a swimming pool during a family holiday in Spain.Hartley Wareham died on July 3, four days after the incident at his family’s holiday home, the BBC reported. A hearing at Exeter Coroner’s Court on July 22 revealed that the toddler was found in the swimming pool on June 29.Hartley’s father pulled him from the water and immediately began CPR before his mother took over. Paramedics then restored the child’s heartbeat before he was taken to hospital.Despite initial efforts to resuscitate Hartley, his condition deteriorated and he died four days later.Assistant coroner Alison Langhorne, who is overseeing the inquest, said Hartley’s cause of death included water immersion and acute respiratory distress syndrome.Hartley is the younger brother of Exeter City striker Jayden Wareham and plays for the League Two club.Following the tragedy, the City of Exeter expressed its support for the Wareham family in a statement shared on Facebook.The club said: “We offer our sincere condolences to the Wareham family following a devastating family bereavement. Our thoughts are with all their family and friends. We will support Jayden through this very difficult time.”Hartley’s family also launched a JustGiving fundraising campaign to have a custom-made Hey Dodger memorial bench in the garden he loved, describing the animated character as the two-year-old’s “favorite thing in the world”. Any funds raised in addition to bench fees will be used to provide bereavement counseling to the family.Exeter City supported the appeal, saying the memorial would provide the deceased’s family with “a special place where they can sit close to him and remember the wonderful moments they shared.” Devon Live reported that the fundraiser has raised more than £2,300.
