“As tensions in the Middle East increase and the security environment remains complex, unforeseen escalations are possible,” the U.S. State Department said in an alert issued on Saturday.

Jordan attack triggers global alarm

Two days ago, Iran launched an attack in Jordan that killed two U.S. service members and required medical evacuation of four others.

While the notice specifically cited the deteriorating situation in the Middle East, officials stressed that Americans around the world should remain cautious.

“Americans overseas should follow the security alert guidance issued by the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate,” the department said.

The conflict spreads across the region

early Monday, USA Another wave of airstrikes was launched targeting what is believed to be an underground missile facility near a city in northwestern Iran. The operation came shortly after U.S. officials confirmed the death of another U.S. service member.

Iran retaliated with attacks in Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Jordan. Bahrain is home to the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet, making it an important U.S. military hub in the region.

Iran’s supreme leader said: “Now that the enemies of the United States are trying to escalate the conflict and pay a heavier price and further humiliation, it should know that the noble Iranian nation and the resistance front have prepared unforgettable lessons for it.” Mojtaba Khamenei said in a statement reported by Iranian state media.

Airports face security threats

Regional transportation hubs also face growing security concerns. Jordanian authorities recently evacuated Aqaba International Airport after receiving intelligence about specific threats, while Kuwait International Airport has been repeatedly targeted by Iranian missiles and drones.

Following the Jordanian evacuation, the U.S. Embassy in Amman issued its own security warning, urging U.S. citizens to stay away from Aqaba’s airport and seaport.

The embassy also instructed travelers to “keep a low profile.”

Travel advisory measures explained

The U.S. State Department also encourages travelers to review the latest travel warnings and embassy-issued security alerts at Travel.state.gov before traveling to international destinations.
