Iranian officials say mediators propose 10-day truce to revive interim deal

A senior Iranian official told Reuters on Monday that Tehran had received an offer from mediators for a 10-day ceasefire to salvage an interim deal aimed at paving the way for a lasting deal to end the war that began on February 28.Iran’s foreign ministry said mediators had recently made proposals to Tehran, a sign that diplomatic contacts remained active. Neither the ministry nor the official disclosed any further details.Separately, two Pakistani government sources said that Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momenei visited Islamabad for the second time in less than a week and asked Pakistan to resume its mediation role in the conflict between Iran and the United States. The diplomatic push comes after another night of U.S. attacks on Iranian cities and attacks by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards on U.S. military assets in the region. U.S. President Donald Trump has defended the recent attack on Iran, saying it was in memory of as many as three U.S. service members killed in recent Iranian attacks.Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said two oil tankers exploded after trying to pass through the strait via an “unsafe” route. On Sunday, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said an “incident” occurred between two ships in the same area. It’s unclear whether the two incidents are related.Britain’s maritime trading agency said another ship was hit by an unidentified projectile off the coast of Oman overlooking the Strait of Hormuz. The statement said the ship was still drifting but the crew was safe. The U.S. Central Command said it launched attacks on Iran for the ninth consecutive night to “reduce” the country’s ability to attack merchant ships in the Strait. It did not provide further details. Explosions were reported in Tabriz, Chabahar, Konarak, Mahshahr Port and Imam Khomeini Port in Iran. One person died and many others were injured in southwest Tabriz.
