According to Central Command, the attack targeted Iranian military capabilities related to threats to maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which Washington accuses of carrying out attacks on U.S. personnel in Jordan.The U.S. action follows Friday’s Iranian ballistic missile and drone attack on Jordan’s Mouwafak Sarti air base, where U.S. and partner forces are defending against an attack. Central Command said two U.S. service members were killed in the operation, one is still missing, and four others were taken to hospitals in Jordan for treatment and have since been released. Others who were treated for minor injuries have returned to work. The military said it would not reveal the identity of the deceased until his family was notified.The latest attack brings the death toll of U.S. troops in the conflict in Iran to 16, according to U.S. officials.The U.S. military has not yet revealed where the latest wave of attacks has been targeted, nor has it released a preliminary battle damage assessment. Iran had no immediate comment on the operation.
